Horror Movies to Look Forward to in 2019
2019 has already produced some great movies that deserve their spot in the scary movie canon; from the socio-political commentary of Jordan Peele's ‘US’, to one of the best summer horror movies of the past decade, ‘Midsommar’, to the latest entry in the Conjuring franchise, ‘Annabelle Comes Home’. That said, there are still plenty of horror movies left to be released in 2019, the highlights of which are listed below.
Adapted from the classic children's book series, the first footage of this movie already ranks as one of the scariest movie trailers of all-time. Produced by genre mastermind Guillermo Del Toro, whose directing credits include: Blade II, Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and The Shape of Water. This movie turns what already was a frightening series of stories into a scare-tastic film. Get your tickets here.
A sequel to the claustrophobic Jaws-tribute '47 Meters, Uncaged' stars John Corbett and Nia Long in a story of fourteen girls battling their way through a veritable torture chamber of great white sharks. If you enjoyed the first one, you should find the tension just as thick the second time around. Buy you tickets today and prepare to get scared to go back in the water!
Sometimes the best horror movies come with the most straightforward premise. In 'Ready Or Not', hitting the big screen on August 23rd, Samara Weaving stars as Grace, a woman on the eve of her wedding day to Alex le Domas, the scion of a family-run board game empire. However, before they get married, she must partake in the family's annual game of Hide and Seek. Quickly, an innocent yet eccentric game gives way to something far more sinister.
The sequel to the movie that made being scared of clowns fashionable again, 'IT Chapter Two' will be released on September 6th. Starring James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, James Ransome, Isaiah Mustafa, and Bill Hader as the now-adult version of the Losers' Club. Bill Skarsgard also returns as Pennywise, the evil clown who revisits the small town of Derry, Maine, every 27 years. Grab your tickets today to see the conclusion of Stephen King’s terrifying masterpiece.
The first Zombieland introduced audiences to zombie apocalypse survivors Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock (as played by Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, respectively). 'Zombieland Double Tap' brings back all of your favorites with the addition of new cast members like Rosario Dawson, Thomas Middleditch, and Luke Wilson. Make sure to follow your rules for zombie survival when this movie is released on September 25th.
In a list full of sequels and established franchises, 'Doctor Sleep' is perhaps the most surprising entry. An adaptation of the sequel to The Shining novel, Doctor Sleep takes place several decades after the events depicted in the first film and book. Directed by rising horror darling Mike Flanagan, the movie stars Ewan McGregor who plays an adult Danny (now Dan) Torrance when he discovers a teenager with similar gifts. Set to be released on November 8th, this movie should strike a chord with true horror fans.
